Asanti

Asanti is the reply you use to say thank you in Swahili. I found it very difficult to be thankful when my fridge was empty and my plate was bare. This painting is an ode to how much I wished I had been more grateful. I forgive myself for not seeing it was temporary pains to push me to do what I came to do. The red candles are now painted into the memory for solidarity to those who still hold empty plates. May it also be temporary for you.

This painting celebrates eating alone even when you don’t have much. May it hang in a space full of love and beauty for the mundane.
