Baba Candy

In my native language, you name an elder by referring to their first child’s name thus giving birth to this title. Baba Candy was my dad’s cousin. They were inseparable growing up. His presence was as big as his drinking. He would fill up the space in any room with stories of how the world works. When he visited, he would always request my mom’s tilapia. With a drink in one hand, and his favorite meal on the other, he would spend hours at our house laughing till the next morning. This is my tribute to the way I saw him. May this piece go on a wall with the capacity to hold his memory.
